Kawaii literally means "lovable" "cute" or "adorable" in Japanese and has been a part of Japanese pop culture since the 70's. Hello Kitty helped move the trend forward, and her popularity here in the states is comparable to her popularity in her home country of Japan. Hello Kitty is seen in the photo "masks" by amber renee, and I've featured some other items and characters whom I deem kawaii.

Cute things make people happy, don't they? Well, most people. People who aren't vampires. Beauty is inspiring, because beauty inspires happiness and hope and so many things at once. For spiritual people, beauty is proof of a higher power, or a source of happiness and perfection outside of themselves. Plato believed we strived for perfection through an appreciation and understanding of beauty in all it's forms:

"And the true order of going, or being led by another, to the things of love, is to begin from the beauties of earth and mount upwards for the sake of that other beauty, using these steps only, and from one going on to two, and from two to all fair forms to fair practices, and from fair practices to fair notions, until from fair notions he arrives at the notion of absolute beauty, and at last knows what the essence of beauty is."
Sec 211, The Symposium.

See, I still remember some of the things I learned in my philosophy courses! ;)

May this be an inspiring start to a beautiful and constructive week!
