We chose one of three possible activities, and ended up learning our new address (important, since we move frequently, not to get confused), drawing a picture of our new house and then writing our house number on the house. She will take her picture to school tomorrow to share with the class. We also did a shape hunt around the house and recorded what shapes we found in each room.
Eleana is doing so well! After 4 days in kindergarten she has learned to successfully write her name. And she doesn't have to be told which letter comes next or anything. I just ask her to write her name on her paper and she does it. This amazes me! She's becoming such a smarty pants and I'm so proud of her.
This weekend I got the yarn out again and finished some crocheting projects. Three projects, to be exact! No pictures yet, but I made 2 cloche hats, a coffee cozy, and a mini Totoro. The Totoro was supposed to be a keyring, but he ended up being a little larger than the photo, so I gave him to Eleana as a toy. She doesn't have any Totoro toys yet, and he will be a welcome addition to her bedroom.
I am always surfing through Ravelry.com, looking for new and free pattern ideas to try out. I'm always happy to knock a new one out of my list, but sometimes, once I find a new pattern I'm actually good at finishing I stick with it for a while and make a bunch. So I made one hat for Eleana and one hat for her bff Hailey, and will probably make a couple more. Last fall I made a couple earflap hats for the little ones but I can't find Eleana's so I'm going to make another one for her to wear this winter.
Saturday morning I realized that although I haven't worked out every day I have managed to lose 8 pounds since the 16th. Yay! We are doing this mostly by limiting breads/carbs, and fried things. We aren't a family that keeps junk in the house, but during our travels from VA to AK we had to eat out a lot, which meant consuming more junk than we had in a while. Burgers and french fries almost every day, pop, milk shakes, chips and gas station goodies were the only way we ate because we had to pack light. So really, the 8 pounds I've lost have just been the pounds I put on during the trip. I'm back to my "normal" weight, and still have a long way to go before I hit my ultimate goal of my pre-pregnancy weight of 150.
I realize that surgery is always an option, as I don't want to live the majority of my life being fat. I started my life healthy and I intend to end it that way…but I want to be realistic. It seems these days the only way to lose a lot of weight is to go on The Biggest Loser or Oprah or something, or get surgery. I need to try this the serious way first and commit to my new healthy lifestyle. Healthier. Safer.
So this is me, trying to balance a new school year for E, a new environment to live in, and a new way of living this life. I have a lot of new goals for our time spent here in Alaska, and I hope to see many of them if not all of them accomplished.
