It is more than accurate to say that little E is resistant to potty training. Though, now that I think about it, I think she's simply resistant to stopping whatever she is doing at the moment to go potty when it's so much easier to just keep playing with her toys while peeing in her diaper.
Every day we use the potty. Every couple of hours we are going to the bathroom to try to "push 'em out." When she does actually make a pee pee or poopy in the toilet it is a cause for celebrating. She laughs, she smiles, she announces to the whole family and everyone she sees that she went pee pee on the potty. She gets a sticker and maybe candy if she's extra good that day.
But to get her to GO to the bathroom is such a chore.
And yet today, I witnessed a tiny miracle.
I told E, who had already peed in her diaper, "lets go to the potty and try to go pee. Come on, lets go to the bathroom." Upon arrival, I turned on the bathroom light and began to help her take off her pants. She said very sternly to me, "No, Mommy. Stop right there! Wait outside."
What?! Wait outside? Really?!
At first I thought she was just going to try to trick me into thinking she was pottying.
So I stepped outside the door and left it cracked enough that I could watch her cautiously through the crack in the door frame. And what I beheld was nothing short of a miracle.
While quietly humming a happy tune only she knows to herself, little E took her jeans off. She carefully unhooked her diaper tapes (a trick I had shown her this morning) and placed her wet diaper gingerly on the floor. She hummed about as she placed her Sesame Street potty adapter seat on the big potty and placed her step stool in front of it. She climbed up, and, holding the potty seat handles, carefully sat down on the potty.
After a few moments of silence she beckoned for me, "Okay, Mommeeeee! All done!"
She was ever so proud of herself, and although she didn't actually potty in the potty...she got a big hug and congratulatory candy anyway.
This is hopefully the new light at the end of the long potty training tunnel.
